I am sure you have all heard of so called lotto systems, magical ways of picking numbers, charting systems, lotto wheels etc. Well, for the most part – THEY DON”T WORK. I say for the most part because I am sure there are times when someone using these so called “systems” actually wins a major prize. This however is based more on luck or coincidence than anything else. Neither I nor anyone else can give you a system that will pick the winning numbers for you. Believe me, if I was in possession of such a system i wouldn’t be writing this blog right now – I would be living a life of luxury in the Bahamas. Do you really think that if someone had a sure fire system they would let us in on the secret and reduce their potential winnings? If they could correctly forecast the winning numbers they wouldn’t need to sell lotto systems, now would they? Lotto is a game of chance, pure and simple.
Now don’t despair, as I said there are ways of swinging things in our favour – making our own luck if you like. There are methods of play that can greatly increase our chances of winning whilst keeping the playing cost within everyone’s reach. I am getting to that so please be patient.
So, what about these “systems”?
Number Generators
Certainly these do generate numbers that you can use to play the lottery but so does sticking a pin in the coupon, using birth dates, ages, lucky numbers etc. They do not generate the winning numbers except by pure luck.
Systems based on your birth date
Now I have nothing against numerology, horoscopes or astrology and it is certainly not within the scope of this report to delve into these areas. I will simply remind you that lotto is a game of randomly selecting six numbers from a barrel containing 36 or more balls. Everyone’s lucky numbers can’t come out at the same time, can they? By all means use your lucky numbers for they are just as good as any and if they help you to win then I am all for it. Just remember that this is a means of picking which numbers to play not a method of picking the winning combination. Although hopefully the two will coincide at some point.
Lotto Wheels
These are based on the number of times a certain number has been drawn in a certain amount of previous draws. They give odds as to how likely the number is to hit in the next draw. Let me remind you again. Lotto is a game of chance, no one draw influences the next.
Charting Systems
These are similar to lotto wheels and basically entail keeping a list of each draw to determine how often or how long since a certain number was drawn. The theory is that if a number hasn’t been drawn for some time then it is DUE and should be played. Or that it has been drawn a lot of times recently and is running hot so should be played. As I have already mentioned, lotto is a game of chance and no one draw influences the next.
One other theory that I have heard of entailed drawing up a small chart. The chart was based on reducing each of the numbers to a single digit and looked similar to this:

As you can see, if you add the two digits in each number together they add to the number in the top row. Note that you keep adding until each number is reduced to a single digit. For example, 38 would be 3 + 8 = 11 then 1 + 1 = 2. Now, it is apparently very rare for any more then two numbers from each column to appear in the same draw. What this means of course is that if you had all the numbers from one column in the same game square you would have very little chance of them all appearing. This of course is a theory and has absolutely no mathematical or logical basis. You may wish to keep a check on it for a period of time and if you find it to hold true then it may help you to choose your numbers to optimize your chances of winning.
This is by no means a definitive look at lotto systems and I don’t wish to totally dispel their worth. As long as the law of averages apply then charting systems and the like will, in theory, eventually lead to the selection of a winning number. However, while each number will theoretically appear the same amount of times of a given period it would take thousands of draws for this to occur, and that is being very conservative.
